Posh Picks: Return To Work Wardrobe

December 09, 2015

The return to work from maternity leave is an exciting time. You have been away from work for an extended period so you're wondering if you remember how to actually do actual work, like with a computer and stuff. You probably haven't worn your existing work clothes at all during that time, and it's possible they may not fit like they used to (please don't freak out about this, your body has changed, it's a thing, you'll get there, don't worry). Or you might hate everything you have and want something nice and new to start fresh.

It can be hard to justify the expense of a pile of new clothes, considering your disposable income has likely been reduced significantly. I got around this by hitting up the op shops hard and I would still recommend this as an option to those looking for a quick win.

As you know, being asked my opinion around fashion and shopping gives me great joy (it's my scientific speciality), so when my friend Kim asked me to suggest some pieces for her return to work after maternity leave, I was super excited and only too happy to oblige.

Kim's brief: "I just want to look like Oliva Palermo on a 'Housos' budget".

Challenge accepted.

With $250 imaginary Australian dollars in hand, I have put together this selection that features solid basics and mix and match pieces to reflect Kim's minimalist tendencies and an office dress code that is quite similar to mine. A capsule wardrobe needs to WERK so I've gone for classic cuts and taken a post-pregnancy body into consideration with high waists, forgiving tops and easy care fabrics. Items can be jazzed up with Kim's existing collection of necklaces, shoes and enviable handbags.

Emerge | Lean 7/8 Pant^
Were $59.99 now $39
Atmos&Here | Agnes Blouse^
$39.95
Emerge | Scallop Shell Top^
Was $29.99 now $19
Next | Zip Back Tee^
$28

Capture | Stripe Jumper^
Was $59 now $39

Sara | Pull-On Straight Skirt^
Was $59.95 now $35
Capture | Relaxed Pocket Dress^
Was $79.99 now $39

That leaves $11 over which can go towards Kim's almond milk latte on her first day back.

Have you had a return to work after maternity leave? Did you buy much new stuff, what did you go for if so? Were there any significant changes in what you wore to work after babies?
