Holographic Fantastic
February 12, 2015
Today I'm super stoked to be appearing on proper style blog Redcliffe Style as part of the 30+ Style and Beauty link up!
And speaking of all things far out (how's that for a segue*), who doesn't love a futuristic holographic metallic look?
Anyway, I love it. LOVE IT. I'm like a bower bird; drawn to iridescence, colour, sparkle and shine. If it weren't for some semblance of taste and restraint, I'd be wearing full glitter eyes every day and the blingiest of crystal-powered bling I could lay my hands on.
Here's me in a grainy late-90s example of the holographic look. Oh, wouldn't you know - it's the first Throwback Thursday of 2015!
Alright, back it up. I never actually wore this as a serious actual going out top but I found it on the clearance rack at Miss JM in John Martin's (old school Adelaide, represent!) for $10 and I had to have it. It made an appearance at a hippie night and since then has been stored in The Vault, waiting for its next outing.
So when ASOS sent me an email informing me that fashion had "gone galactic", I was all up in that business and immediately fell in love with the first item I saw:
ASOS Holographic Sequin Strip Dress $164 |
Currently trying to decide if I may be too old for this look while simultaneously canvassing my social calendar for the next 12 months for an opportunity to wear it. But here are some ways you can rock the holographic trend without going too far out of the box or out of pocket, all of which are chilling in my Saved Items bag on ASOS.com:
And if you're really only dipping your toe in . . .
Are you ready to go galactic?
(I totally am)

Are you ready to go galactic?
(I totally am)
* it's really how you spell it, honestly

Loved your feature on Redcliffe Style and getting to know you a bit better. I'm not sure I'm ready to embrace the holographic but never say never.
ReplyDeleteThere are a few things I've declared I'll never wear, only to be proved sheepishly wrong when I've turned up in leggings, maxi dresses or the aforementioned printed pants. So now I've learnt to reserve judgement unless it's something I really will never wear, like booty-baring shorts or bra tops!
ReplyDeleteLove it! Could holographic/galactic be the new nude?!
ReplyDeleteI'm happy to be a "nudist" if so, Janet! :)
DeleteI don't know. Maybe I'll let you own it all by yourself. The clutch is pretty awesome though. Rachel x
ReplyDeleteIt is and I think I'm probably going to have to own it - waitfor a sale of course!
DeleteI've seen some pretty awesome holographic items - especially bags and clutches! I find the accessories easiest to wear to incorporate a trend as bold as this though :) Congrats on your feature on Redcliffe style!
